Cable ducts
Fibre optic cables certainly are fast, powerful and future-proof. Yet, they are also vulnerable. Ducts, therefore, are a vital component in any fibre installation. They protect fibre optic cables, both above- and belowground, against mechanical stress, moisture, chemical exposure and miscalculated excavations.
Depending on the application, main conduits, microducts or subducts are used, usually made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene). This material combines an extremely long lifespan (50 to even 150 years) with flexibility, high compressive strength and full recyclability.
Ducts also facilitate fibre optic installation through cable blowing or replacement without the need to excavate again. Choosing the right duct today will save you time, costs and hassle tomorrow.
Why choose our ducts?
At Wirewave, we donโt just sell you a product. In consultation with you, we work out a solution for your project, from design to installation, also taking into account any future expansions.
Future-proofing: we intentionally keep the duct filling ratio at no more than 40 to 60% so that ventilation, cable movement and scaling up remain possible.
Mechanical reliability: ducts are resistant to soil pressure, vibrations and loads, even in demanding environments such as tunnels or industrial sites.
Ease of installation: smooth inner walls and optimised bending radii ensure trouble-free blowing over long distances.
Recognizability & safety: clear colour coding (e.g. orange for fibre) and correct seals against water and pests.
Together, we make sure you won't have to dig up your project again later โ literally and figuratively.
Would you like to discover what that means in concrete terms for your project or organisation?

Smart technology โ better performance
We select ducts that evolve with modern networks. For example:
Microduct and multiduct systems designed to manage multiple fibre optic cables separately, neatly and efficiently.
Twinwall main conduits with a ribbed exterior for extra strength and a smooth interior for minimal friction
Fireproof jacket material (LSZH) for indoor applications and tunnels, with minimal smoke production
Compatibility with air jetting methods, up to several kilometres per duct route
These technologies make your network not only robust, but also scalable and low-maintenance.
Applications where ducts are essential
Our ducts protect fibre optic cables in numerous applications, including:
FTTH (Fiber to the Home)
5G & Fiber to the Antenna (FTTA)
Data centers and corporate networks
Detection and alarm systems
Optical sensing (temperature, vibration and rupture detection)
Industrial installations, tunnels and infrastructure works
Government, defence and critical networks
Both outdoor and indoor โ although the emphasis today is clearly on underground applications.
